Don’t miss: Outdoor enthusiasts should make a date with this year’s Keswick Mountain Festival, which runs from 10-12 September and includes a wide range of sports from triathlons to more gentle guided walks as well as live music and street food
Animal instinct: Keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels, Herdwick sheep and the ospreys that breed near Bassenthwaite Lake
Why not: Bring your telescope and try to spot a few constellations? The Lake District National Park is renowned for its stargazing and is a Dark Sky Discovery Site

Animal instinct: Sherwood Forest is home to a wide range of flora and fauna including rabbits, weasels, foxes, woodpeckers, bats and badgers. If you’re lucky you might spot a fallow deer
