The study also named residents in Wiltshire as the UK’s keenest campers with the most equipment purchases per person since 2019.

Based on its 2021 sales report, Cotswold Outdoor also analysed countrywide data and Google Trends, and discovered that Bristol and Sterling in Scotland ranked second and third after Wiltshire for keen campers.

Also, sales of sleeping bags for children were up by 110 per cent, sales of two-person tents were up by 89 per cent and sales of event shelters up by 75 per cent.

With international travel restrictions in place due to the Covid pandemic, people in the UK have taken the opportunity to leave their homes and explore the countryside, the company said.
