Be Carbon Monoxide aware this winter
If you are planning to extend your camping season or are continuing to tour during the winter months, it is more than likely you will be running your appliances more often and for longer.
With increased usage, the potential risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increases also, so it is important to be vigilant about carbon monoxide (CO) safety in your unit.
CO is a colourless, odourless, tasteless gas produced when a fuel burns incompletely. It can be deadly if inhaled.
In fact, this week marks Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week. Running until 26 November the annual campaign from the All Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group aims to raise awareness of what you can do to stay safe and protect your family. There is plenty of useful advice on the website.
Don’t forget, the Club also offers great safety tips to protect against the effect of CO including, never take a cooling barbecue into a tent or awning, have your appliances serviced regularly and make sure you have a co alarm in your unit. It is also important to be able to spot the danger signs of CO poisoning. Head to the Club website to find out more.
