Stay the night at Scottish forest sites
In continuation of the Stay the Night initiative championed last year, Forestry and Land Scotland has announced further opportunities for camping tourers to make use of its car parks for impromptu overnight stop-overs.
The initiative, which runs from 1 April to 31 October, aims to encourage more visitors to their managed forests by making it convenient for nature-lovers to stay overnight, rather than finding alternative accommodation, which is not always straightforward.
To deter unwanted consequences, there are some important terms and conditions that must be followed in order to keep all visitors happy, and most importantly, the forests kept clean and tidy. Overnight parking is only available to units with self-contained sanitation facilities, while awnings, tents and car camping are not permitted. Stays are restricted to one night only and you should arrive after 6pm and leave before 10am. Charges for Stay the Night apply at car parks equipped with ticket machines. Pre-booking and allocated spaces are not possible as the scheme operates on a first-come first-serve basis, only. Blue Badge holders are also exempt from Stay the Night parking charges.
For further information about which car parks are participating, go to the Forestry and Land Scotland website.
