The Club’s Bowness on Windermere and Chertsey Club Sites have both reopened following major refurbishments, and have been taking bookings since the end of August.
Ahead of the official opening, both sites hosted campers at test events in July and August, giving members the chance to enjoy a sneak preview of the campsites and creating an opportunity for the Club to check all facilities and site services were running smoothly.
Lakeside camping in Bowness on Windermere
Bowness on Windermere in the Lake District National Park is in a prime lakeside location within easy walking distance of the town centre of Bowness as well as beautiful Windermere. The site has undergone a transformation with a new reception building and completely redeveloped facility block and it offers a great choice of hardstanding and super service pitches.
Jo and Dave Harris
“We’re from Leicestershire, but we come to the Lakes regularly. Our stay on the new site has been absolutely wonderful – we’ve booked to come back in June next year for the Great North Swim, which Jo is taking part in.
“We’ve been out on the bikes a lot – we did a full loop of Windermere yesterday, and we’ve been to Kendal and Windermere Club Sites, too – we had a drink at The Whistling Pig pub there.”

“We’ve used the dog wash this morning, which was brilliant. Our dog, Ellie, loves it.
“The site’s facilities are great, and all the team have been helpful, and knowledgeable.
“It’s so handy for Bowness. We always look at where we can get to walking or on public transport when we camp. We’ve been using the local buses - you can get a hop-on, hop-off ticket for £9, so we’ve already been to Grasmere and Ambleside.”
Angela and Eddie Fisher
“We’ve only just joined the Club as we got a new VW campervan, Betsy, so we’ve been exploring the network. It’s a quiet site and we’re on a super pitch. It’s a lovely layout, with a brilliant family room and facilities. It’s in an ideal location here, we would come back.
“We only live half an hour away and we usually come to stay in the Lakes in early summer. We’ve been enjoying using the buses to get to Grasmere and Keswick.
“We’ve also been on a bike ride, taking the ferry across Windermere then following the track along to Ambleside.”
Judith and David Dewhurst
“We’ve been here lots of times before. I like that they’ve kept that Lakeland feel to the site – they just need to get a few planters now. We don’t often use the shower blocks while we’re away but we have here, and they’re nice, and the motorhome emptying point is much better now.
“The site has good-sized pitches and the bus service is fantastic. We went to Windermere
then got the train to Oxenholme and on to
Carlisle. We’re only an hour away from home and coming here, we’ve been able to use the site like a park and ride.
“We’ve been going on the Windermere ferry and we took a trip up the lake, too. It helps that the weather has been lovely – you’re not always so lucky in the Lakes!”

Riverside camping in Chertsey
Chertsey Club Site sits on the bank of the River Thames in Surrey, within easy walking distance of the historical town of Chertsey as well as countryside, riverside walks and activities. It’s also just a short train ride from the heart of London and all of the capital’s attractions. The site’s redevelopment has included a refurbished reception and facilities block as well as a new children’s play area, and it offers a mix of grass, hardstanding and super service pitches.
Deborah and Ian Lindridge
“It’s amazing what they’ve done with the place. We stayed about three years ago, and previously didn’t want to come back because of the amenities block, but it’s lovely now.”
Sylvia and Ken Hale
“We used to be stewards for the Winter Sun Rallies, so we have lots of old friends from the Club. We’ve been into London and are going to Kew Gardens. Our daughter lives nearby in Walton-on-Thames, so she came to visit yesterday.”

“We’re so grateful to the Club for the chance to camp for free. We’ve just used the dog wash and it’s great.”
Sue and Barry Wilkinson
“We’d like to thank the Club for giving us the opportunity to come down. We’re from County Durham, so it’s about 260 miles.
“It’s a nice site and reasonably quiet, we’ve got the parrots to keep us company and woodpeckers, and there’s a resident fox, we think. Chertsey is less than a mile’s walk, the station is around a mile and you’ve got two pubs by the bridge.
“We got the bus to Hampton Court, then walked back to Walton on Thames and got the bus back, and we’ve explored Chertsey as well. It’s been good, we’ve enjoyed it.”
