The Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show returned to the NEC in Birmingham for another sell-out event. SUE TAYLOR, take a look at some of the new units and accessories on offer.
TENTS
Bellisima’s stunning bell tents were hard to miss in the new Club sponsored Tent and Camping Hall. Three of four beautifully patterned designs were on show including a cheery sunflower design. With a generous 2m door height, the polyester tents offer ample space to accommodate up to six people and we’re told, are easy to pitch. The tents have a zipped-in ground sheet, four low level windows and plenty of storage pockets. Prices start from £500 for a three metre tent, up to £550 for the 5m tents on show.
The multi-use Air Multi-Tent from Boatworld on show in Hall 4, is an interesting concept. This compact inflatable tent is equally at home whether fixed on top of an inflatable boat, or car or, with its fin box attached, you can even use it as an inflatable raft for fishing trips and wild camps. The easy to inflate tent, which sleeps two, features a removable air floor. It deflates easily and packs away into a wheeled carry case. There's also a useful heavy duty waterproof cover and telescopic ladder thrown in. £1,250
TRAILERS
Glawning, best known for its glamping-style poly-cotton driveaway awnings, unveiled its new Bike Trailer with roof tent atop in Hall 5 (see left). With a combined weight of 500kg (depending on size of roof tent), plus bikes, this trailer/tent combination can be towed by most cars.
If you're a camper who enjoys cycling, this trailer/tent combo could be for you, but it will set you back £10,995.
Moto-Trek’s stand-out Cyclone 180 motorsport trailer (from £35K) in Hall 2 was hard to miss. Inside the bold electric blue GRP body, luxury accommodation includes seating and sleeping for four, gas hob, 47L electric fridge, and it even pcks in a large washroom with electric flushing toilet and fold down sink. The cavernous rear garage with gas assisted rear lift-up door provides ample storage space for your chosen sporting kit. But you will need something quite weighty to tow it though.
CAMPERVANS
In Hall 3 Auto Trail unveiled its Exhibition 68, the company’s first foray into the world of dedicated sports campers. The Expedition 68 is designed specifically for cyclists to travel and transport their bikes and kit as well as themselves. In a move away from traditional white, the camper comes in an Expedition grey colour. The pop-top camper, built on a Fiat Ducato chassis has a 140bhp engine, with a cost option to upgrade to a 180bhp combined with a 9-speed automatic gearbox if desired. It packs a lot into its 6.36m length, including a small washroom. The large underbed storage area accommodates up to four bikes on slide out racks. It sleeps two to four and has four belted seats. From £52,460 OTR.
Campervan Co launched the world’s first low-emissions hybrid eco camper back in 2016. This year the company showed off its latest innovation, the fully electric Toyota Proace Eco REVOLUTION. This camper is packed with technology aimed at reducing RV emissions ahead of the government’s 2030 deadline. It has a 50kWh battery offering an up to 144 mile range. All the camper’s onboard equipment, including its induction cooktop and LED lighting are powered by a 230-Ah 24-V lithium leisure battery. There’s a 240V hook-up for plugging into mains power for charging. Off-grid, the battery is topped up using up to 930 watts of included solar charging. The van offers four belted seats and four berth sleeping.
The camper is available to pre-order. Prices start from £69,995.
Luxury vehicle and Ford transit Custom converter Sterling bought along some its handiwork to the show. Its striking Roamer campers included the four berth Roamer Lux on a Renault Traffic chassis (£68,490) and the four berth Roamer LX £72,990.
Vantage has partnered with Ford to build two new pop-top campers based on Ford’s Transit Custom and they're on display in Hall 5. The new Vantage Fuze (left) and Vantage Luna both offer five belted seats and four berths.
The compact Fuze, at just under 5m in length, is the perfect weekend getaway unit with standard layout with rock n roll seating. It has a two burner hob, sink, fridge/freezer and roof-mounted 100W solar panel. £59,950 OTR. The higher specced Luna has storage for a portable loo, a Smev mini grill, diesel blown air heating, gas and electric hot water and larger fresh water tank.
MOTORHOMES
In addition to its three new caravan models (see details here) Bailey unveiled two new Adamo motorhomes.
The compact Adamo 60-4 sleeps four and seats four. The front flexi lounge seating conceals the Aguti convertible travelling seats as well as converting in roomy double bed. The three position drop down bed provides the additional two sleeping berths. There’s a full-width rear washroom with separate shower area and a compact kitchen area between the lounge and washroom. The combined tower fridge/freezer, located opposite the kitchen, is an impressive 140l. £73,499 OTR
Just shy of 7.5m is the roomy Adamo 75-4T. It shares a similar set up to the 60-4 but with addition of twin beds over a rear garage. There’s a useful top-opening storage unit between the twin beds for books, reading glasses etc. £75,499 OTR.
Weinsberg launched the X-Cursion Van, its first motorhome on a VW T6.1 chassis. The two-model range – the 500 MQ and the 500 LT – pack a lot into their compact frames.
The four berth 500 MQ features front and rear double beds, four belted seats, a space saving washroom with moveable washbasin, height adjustable shower and swivel cassette toilet, a two burner gas hob and 90l fridge. There’s a spacious rear garage with a large opening for easy access. It also has a ten-year leak-proofness guarantee. £75,580
The 500 LT offers living and sleeping to the front of the motorhome, with the kitchen and washroom closer to the rear. The dinette area has face-2-face seating for up to six and a 27” smart TV. The overhead Easy-Move bed is quick and easy to position and stowed away after use. The garage is accessible from both inside and outside of the unit. £75,580.
CARAVANS
A new addition to the Adria Altea range of caravans is the Tyne 612 DL. This four berth ‘van with the signature in-line panoramic window features a rear washroom with a separate shower cabin with solid floor. There’s a U-shaped from lounge area, there's room for a compact kitchen with a three burner gas hob, oven and grill, a 140l fridge and a microwave, and twin beds. Priced from £29,700
If you liked the rather stylish Mink 2.0 Sports Camper we revived back in October 21, you might be a fan of its latest model too. Mink bought along its new Highlander model. It retains the unique oval shape of the Mink 2.0 but has a more rugged appearance with larger tyres and fenders, a higher ground clearance and bold black body styling. It might look tougher, but we’re assured it retains the same level of comfort as its stable mate. OTR £23,495
AWNINGS
Cinch is back (we reviewed its innovative pop-up tent back in 2015) with the Hub, its versatile weather-proof pop-up shelter cum gazebo, measuring 2.3 x 2.3m x 1.9m high (£299). With the addition of the Connector (£179) the Hub becomes a useful campervan awning. Add the inner tent (£69) and you’ve an additional space to comfortably sleep two. You can see it and Cicnch's Shelter in Hall 4.
Dometic has added to its driveaway campervan awning range with the Rarotonga DA FTT 401 (£1,563). Made from lightweight waterproof polyester fabric, its mutli-point inflation frame and near vertical front and side walls combine a spacious, easy to pitch living and sleeping space with great weather protection.
Its new Club Deluxe Air Pro DA campervan awning will double your living space. The premium awning features integral wet weather canopies on three sides and its clever dual-fronted design means the awning can be fitted to either the right hand or left hand side of your vehicle. T
If you are a fan of Kampa's Cross Air driveaway campervan awning, which features a high dome 3 x 3m living area, you may be pleased to see a new polycotton version added to its range.
The new Buddy from Isabella offers a clever and flexible way of utilising your motorhome’s roll out awning. Its two side panels (2.5m depth) and a front panel (available in four widths) attach to create an enclosed living space under the cover of your motorhome awning. Strong magnets hold the awning roof and side panels together and the front zips into the side panels. Buddy can be fixed anywhere you like on the awning to suit how you live.
The new Ventura AIR Dove airbeam awning (right) for caravans and motorhomes has just one inflation point for quick and easy pitching. It has a unique height adjustment system to allow it to fit units with a rail height between 245 and 270cm. The front and sides are removable to suit how you live and the front canopy can be zipped off if preferred.
The Noridc full caravan awning has been designed to be used throughout the camping season. It features a solid PVC roof and comes with the heavy-duty MegaFrame. The front and side panels are made easy-to-clean Isacryl fabric which is breathable and won’t fade. It has an extra wide door and double PVC mudflaps for extra protection against the weather.
There were new awnings too from Westfield. The new Aquila Pro (left) (£2,600) joins its Premium Light awning range. This free-standing air awning can be attached to either the left hand or right had side of your vehicle. Westfield even suggests it can be used as a family tent without a camper. The Triton (£1,515), a free-standing pavilion-style awning is another addition. The two side walls have tinted windows, mosquito nets and zipped inner blinds. The connector (bought separately) comes in three sizes. New to its Premiuim range is the Orion air (£1,565), suitable for motorhomes from 180-270cm high. The connecter is available in three sizes (bought separately) and attaches to the opening with a zipper and to the vehicle with a standard kador. Features include two entrance doors in the tunnel which allow direct access to your vehicle, large panoramic windows, a front door and side panels with mosquito nets.
ACCESSORIES
The Shelter (£349) is an eye-catching new vintage-style camping tarp from Cinch. The easy-pitch weather-proof poly-canvas tarp (3.8m x 2.85m x 2m) offers the perfect hang-out spot for up to eight people. The additional inner tent (£109) with sewn-in ground sheet provides a roomy sleep space for two if needed.
Gone are the days of spending a penny should you invest in the new to the UK Cinderella incineration toilet. This £4k environmentally-friendly Travel loo runs off gas or a 12V electricity supply and requires no plumbing or chemicals to operate. Waste is simply incinerated and the resulting ash can be used as compost.
Nagonic Design launched its Fridge Power Saver, a device designed to save energy. Placed between a power pack and a 12V camping fridge, using your vehicle’s cigarette lighter plug, the Power Saver can be set to time an ‘on’ and ‘off’ cycle on your fridge depending on your needs. £79.99
Peak District-based, family company Riber launched its new Derbyshire-designed and made sit on top kayak. The Photon, made from blow moulded HDPE, is packed with features including a unique bucket storage hatch for valauables, and comes with a folding paddle and a backrest. £319.
If you're looking to improve the security of your motorhome, you may want to take a look at Milenco's new Wraith 2 motorhome wheel lock on display in Hall 5. The company has spent the last two years developing and testing the lock which is engineered to far exceed the Sold secure Gold Standard. The Wraith 2 locks onto a special wheel bolt and wraps around the tyre to prevent rotation and can be used with both metal and alloy wheels. The lock comes with three keys and will set you back £124.99.
Wonderfold’s range of new all-terrain stroller wagons include the special edition VW4 Volkswagen. Inspired by the vintage VW bus, this stroller wagon is designed to carry four children (up to 1,360kg). Each raised and reclining seat has a 5-point standard safety harness and there’s a removable canopy and a one-step brake system. The all-terrain XL retro VW wheels should make lighter work of transporting littles on and off the campsite. Price £1,999. And, for £199, the range includes a folding stroller for pampered pooches.
