The Motorhome and Caravan Show is at Birmingham’s NEC until Sunday 22 October, with nearly 400 exhibitors under one roof.
There are many new products on display from the big names in the industry (see our other news stories), but here is a roundup of a few of the less obvious ones:
The polycotton drive-away awning from Kampa
Polycotton tents and awnings are familiar on campsites. Not necessarily the cheapest option, but they are particularly good in hotter climates when they tend to stay cooler than their polyester equivalents. Drive-away motorhome awnings, however, seem to have missed out on this trend until now. You can see Kampa’s new polycotton drive-aways in hall 12, stand 42.
The Knaus Travelino
Fresh from exhibitions in its home country (Germany), this is the first of these ultra-lightweight caravans to reach the UK.
Using an entirely new frame technology and internal fittings based on a honeycomb structure, the company says the Travelino design style will reduce caravan weights by around 400kg across the board.
The model on display also boasts a front window that darkens electronically, making curtains and blinds redundant. See it in hall 7, stand 39.
Whale Easi-Slide Exterior Utilities Sockets
There should be no more flappy plastic covers on the sides of caravans and motorhomes with Whale’s latest product. The covers slide up out of the way when you need to access the connectors underneath. A great idea that simply works. See them in hall 20, stand 43.
Fed up with white boxes?
Polish manufacturer Freedom has introduced a red version of its tiny Jetstream Jet Twin Sport model. Known as the Phoenix, this striking caravan comes with alloy wheels, a 130W solar panel and USB sockets but still only weighs a maximum of 750kg.
A-class motorhomes on a budget from Sunlight
A-class vehicles, where the cab is fully integrated with the rest of the motorhome, normallycommand a high price tag but German manufacturer Sunlight has release two models costing less than £60,000. The I68 has two single beds while the I69L has a fixed bed and second drop-down double. See them in hall 9, stand 20.
Double bay windows on a caravan
There’s a touch of art deco about the Landhaus caravan from Hobby. It’s a large caravan that will need a commercial vehicle to tow it, but its distinctive design with a bay window at each end and roof overhangs will mean you’ll certainly stand out on the campsite. The Landhaus is in hall 9, stand 30.
The Motorhome and Caravan Show runs until Sunday 22 October.
