I’ll admit, dear reader, that I was as sceptical as you are reading this now. As an ardent tent-lover why on earth would I need my own portable loo – never mind want one?

Then came the day I found the perfect campsite in the Camping and Caravanning Club’s network: a wilderness site with lots of green space, hardly any other campers and a footpath straight to a wild stretch of coastline. The catch? No toilet block. Did this mean I would have to abandon my plans? Thankfully – with this convenient (pardon the pun) invention – the answer was a resounding no.

Coming with its own easy to peg out pop-up cubicle (complete with a roll up window for venting, zip open door and a hardy ground sheet), it’s essentially a robust, clip together, lightweight, toilet shaped box, with a fabric ‘lid’ (to help keep smells – and bugs – out).

You line it with one of the ten included biodegradable disposal bags complete with super absorbent powder that turns both liquids and solids into gel, making for mess-free disposal.

Easy-to-use, the powder did a good job at stopping any untoward pongs and setting up and taking it down was a simple affair.

As a tent camper there was certainly something very novel about having my very own ‘en-suite’ and now I can happily stay in any campsite I like – loo or no loo.
