The Camping and Caravanning Club buys Thornton’s Holt Camping Park

Monday 13th November 2023

The Camping and Caravanning Club has purchased Thornton’s Holt Camping Park near Nottingham from owners Polly and Simon Jones.

The 13.5-acre campsite dates back to the 1960s and has since been owned by the same family for more than 30 years. It can accommodate up to 175 tents, caravans and motorhomes and also features a café and shop.

Sabina Voysey, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “We’re really excited to acquire Thornton’s Holt, to build on the fantastic business that Polly and Simon have created and to strengthen our Club Site network.

“The Club has a proven track record of successfully operating campsites for more than a century, building strong community links, and ultimately providing excellent sites for campers to enjoy their holidays.

“We’re delighted to have received the keys to Thornton’s Holt and we look forward to raising the barrier for the first time as a Club Site early in the next camping season, when we will be ready to welcome existing and new campers to this lovely campsite.”

Thornton’s Holt boasts impressive eco-credentials and features solar water heating, rainwater harvesting for flushing toilets, and recycled glass insulation beneath the washrooms. The site is in a fantastic location that offers a wide variety of attractions, activities and scenic countryside, and has excellent transport links.

Polly and Simon said: “We were really keen to ensure Thornton’s Holt continued to be a touring site that provided a warm welcome to our customers, and we felt The Camping and Caravanning Club would be the perfect organisation to take our legacy forward – it’s a fairy-tale ending for us.

“Our customers will still be able to enjoy their holidays here, which many of them see as their second home, and that’s really important to us. Given the Club has been established for more than 120 years, we know it will continue to provide an excellent service to our current – and new – campers for many years to come.

“Ultimately it was a big decision for us to take but we are really excited about opening our own new chapter and enjoying the adventures ahead, and we wish the Club every success for the future.”

The Club officially took ownership of Thornton’s Holt on Wednesday, November 1 following the sale by Sanderson Weatherall and the site has closed temporarily for refurbishment work to begin its transition to a Club Site. It is scheduled to reopen early in the next camping season when it will be renamed Nottingham Club Site.
