New Club Chairman elected

Friday 13th December 2024

Jane Read has been elected as the new Chairman of The Camping and Caravanning Club at its recent AGM.

Jane will chair the Club’s Executive Committee, Management Committee and National Council for the next two years. She replaces Chris Chester who held the role since November 2022 and now becomes Club Immediate Past Chairman.

Jane, a keen motor caravanner from Suffolk, was elected by the Club’s National Council. Her volunteering with the Club began in the 1990s, when she became Norfolk and Suffolk DA Secretary, and later Eastern Region Secretary. She became a National Councillor in 2010 and has been Club Vice Chairman for the last two years. Jane said: “I will continue to represent members’ interest on the Club’s committees, to do my best to keep them happy and engaged with us.”

She added: “The thing I enjoy most about camping and the Club is the friendliness – I’ve made friends all over the country, people I would never have met if I wasn’t in the Club. My husband John and I still love to get out and about all year round in our motorhome.”

Walter Nichols has been elected as new Vice-Chairman and joins Jane, Chris and Steve Harris, Honorary Treasurer, on the Club’s Executive Committee.

Club Director General Sabina Voysey said: “Jane is highly regarded for her attention to detail, and her friendly but robust approach to the business side of the Club. I look forward to working with Jane to steer the Club throughout 2025 and beyond.”

Sabina added: “I would also like to thank Chris for his service as Chairman. The cost-of-living crisis caused us many challenges during his time in the role, but we worked closely to minimise the impact on the Club and its members.”
