Abbotsford House is situated close to Galaghiels, a short distance south west of Edinburgh.

When Sir Walter Scott, author of novels such as Rob Roy and Ivanhoe, purchased Abbotsford in 1811 it was a small farm house known as ‘The Muddy Hole.’

By the time he had finished his expansions, the humble farm dwelling had been transformed into a fairy-tale castle.
