Water-based fun, walking and the attractions of the Lakes are accessible from this site.

Our family-friendly Windermere Club campsite is betwixt popular Bowness-on-Windermere and the bustling market town of Kendal. Its location makes it ideal for exploring both towns and the varied attractions of the southern Lake District.

Sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this campsite, the plentiful wildlife and the wonderful views. Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. Take the chain ferry to the western side of the lake and visit the pretty village of Hawkshead and Claife Heights, National Trust woodland great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting. Fell Foot Park at the southern tip of the lake is perfect for picnics or a swim in the lake.

I cannot blame club for weather, which was mainly rain with some sunny spells, how-ever for the money the club charges I feel the field could be made more even and drainage improved. I and my family have been camping for best part 40 years, and can honestly say this was one of the worst fields we have camped on. The good parts, the site is located in a very nice part of the country, is well laid out, friendly staff, clean facilities, and the small pub by reception selling reasonable priced food a bonus. I would say this site would be fabulous if weather sunny, but hey this is the United Kingdom

Approach is via a long narrow road with few passing spaces. Luckily we didn't meet a caravan coming the other way when towing even if we had to pull in and reverse a few times when just in the car. The site offers both sheltered and open pitches and most service roads are well maintained, minor roads can be a bit rough. Toilet blocks are a little utilitarian and fellow guests aren't always that good about leaving them the state you would like to find them so we used our van whenever possible. On our pitch, TV reception was poor but other pitches had a good signal. Overall a lovely holiday in a beautiful location but a little extra investment in service roads and toilet blocks would be welcomed. We hope to return and would consider a seasonal pitch as long as it is in the open areas.
