Top site for pubs
Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.
You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.
Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.
Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.
Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.
Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed.
100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.
The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

The whole site is very clean & tidy, the
chap who described himself as the hired hand seems
to handle everything from reception to
removing stray cows from the site that had
got over the fench somehow.
The showers & toilets are immaculate,
but the showers (gents) could do with a
bit of an update, i have never liked plastic
curtains in showers, and the water
pressure seemed a little low in the
shower, but they all worked ok.
The site was mostly level and very quiet.
The local pub is just a two minute walk,
and the cider & beers are light years
ahead of the meals, we had two meals in
the bar & i could only give 5/10.
I will surely return.
Thanks for a great stay.

When we arrived Jan and Jo gave us a very warm welcome and were interested in our 1980's Super Sprinte Major! Throughout our stay they chatted and made time not only for us but for everyone else who wanted information, help or just a friendly chat. The site is well kept and the facilities are spotlessly clean every day. The nearby garage with Spar shop is a bonus and there are plenty of places locally in which to eat like The Ship in Ugborough and The White Hart in Modbury, the two pubs where we thought the food was better than other local pubs. We enjoyed a quiet, relaxing morning onsite and then after having an early lunch in our much loved caravan, we went out to see the local sites. Start Point is a must for those who can manage the uphill trek back to the car park! Weather was good and we unwound in a nice friendly atmosphere. Thank you Jo, Jan, Trevor and The Friendly Club!
