Overview

Venture out to our most northerly Scottish campsite in the Western Highlands.

Our Inverewe Gardens Club campsite shares its name with the world-famous tropical Inverewe Gardens created by Osgood Mackenzie in 1862. This lush oasis perches on a peninsula at the edge of Loch Ewe surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of conservation estate.

Our campsite, just a short walk away, is another oasis of peace and calm. This pretty tree-lined site enjoys glorious views that extend over Loch Ewe – the eagle-eyed may spot otters and seals enjoying the waters. Catch the weather right and the sunsets from here are sublime.

The site has toilet and shower facilities, a laundry and backpacker facilities. For provisions the village of Poolewe, a short walk away has a good shop, as well as a tearoom and hotel.

There are plenty of walks to be enjoyed from site or cycle to Inveradale around the Loch. Further north Rubha nan Sasan, beyond Cove is home to a range of WWII command posts and gun emplacements which helped guard the entrance to Loch Ewe during the war.

Nearby Gairloch has a heritage Museum and Marine Life Centre offering daily cruises to survey dolphins, whales and seals.

Access and SatNav Advice

Recommended approach to the site is from Gairloch side due to steep hill from Ullapool direction.

Worth Noting

Backpackers have an undercover eating and cooking area. A mobile butcher/grocery van visits twice a week. Most shops and fuel stations close on a Sunday. No bank in Poolewe but post office has a cashpoint

Eat Local

A market with fresh produce takes place at the village hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This review is for Inverewe Gardens Poolewe

The world famous gardens at Inverue are well worth a visit even if the weather is not great. We went a few times on our stay at the sight as we joined the national trust while in the area. It's a short journey to get to the gardens . we went via Cove to the end of the peninsula which was so quiet and peaceful as we stopped so many times to admire the surrounding area and hills. Also a trip to the schoolhouse museum and tearoom was the best Try the home baked cakes. Well done to all involved in this project. We also visited Corrieshalloch Gorge which again is well worth a visit. Another visitor here said it was the best gorge he had ever been to it was really hot in May when we were ther so some decided to stay at the site and sunbathe so no matter if visitors want to stay put or investigate the area then the choice is there. Also many had bicycles with them as there are places to visit this way or simply want to walk The choice is your own .wewould have stayed longer if the choice was ours We have every intention of returning later in the year and see how the gardens have changed with the seasons and all the really hard work we saw the gardeners do The campsite staff were constantly busy keeping the site in good running order. Well done to all of you and hope to see you all again soon. Thank you. Beresford so

The site is situated on Loch Ewe, starting place of the Artic convoys during WW2.

This review is for Inverewe Gardens Poolewe

The site is situated on Loch Ewe, starting place of the Artic convoys during WW2. The scenery on the drive up from Inverness is stunning. Booking was easy, just phoned up before leaving and booked my pitch which was ready for my arrival. Wardens friendly and helpful. A short walk to the village which has a shop and pub that serves meals in house or take away. The site was clean and well kept and the reception was well stocked for the last minute items you might have forgotten. all in all a pleasent stay (and my dog liked it)
