Overview

Between the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this peaceful campsite welcomes you to Yorkshire.

Our pretty Slingsby Club campsite sits between the rolling Howardian Hills to the south and the Vale of Pickering and the North York Moors National Park to the north making the campsite a popular base for walkers.

Situated in a peaceful location on the edge of a village, the level, well maintained campsite has modern facilities including a laundry, dish washing area and a well equipped amenity block.

There are plenty of walking opportunities direct from the campsite. Slingsby village, for example, is within walking distance and surrounded by an intricate network of lanes, footpaths and bridleways.

The area is dotted with magnificent historic buildings. Take your pick from gems including the magnificent 18th century Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Newburgh Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey.

Three of the area’s most popular attractions are within 15 miles of the campsite. There’s Flamingoland with its wild animals and wilder rides, the modern history theme museum – Eden Camp and the North York Moors Railway which runs a scenic route from Pickering to Whitby.

The medieval city of York, around a half hour’s drive away, is famous for its city walls, minster and a variety of museums. The city’s Park and Ride scheme accommodates motorhomes.

There are only Club Service pitches so the fee of £3.85 will apply at all times.

Site location and facilities adequate.

This review is for Slingsby

Site location and facilities adequate. However, the warden was grumpy and unhelpful during our visit and the showers had very limited hot water which appeared to run out half way through a shower. One pub in the village and a shop with limited opening times. There are far better C&C sites elsewhere so no need to use this one if you want an enjoyable stay.

Very friendly & helpful staff, good clean site.

Very friendly & helpful staff, good clean site. Ideal for dog walks, loads of public path/bridle ways to explore. Places of interest we visited close by Eden Camp, Whitby Abbey, Duncombe Park & not forgetting Helmsley - Scotts Fish & Chips a must, also an excellent cup of tea at the Black Swan Hotel Tea Room. Not forgetting a couple of visits to the cottage at the side of the camp site, which make home made cakes and fruit loaves. We and our three dogs had an enjoyable time with an added bonus of excellent weather. Thank you for having us :-)

Very pleasant local walks which the site manager Steve will help with. Lovely local pub - nice pint and carafe of wine available as well as good looking food. Did not eat ourselves but plan a return visit to do more of local walks and eat at the pub. One of the best, if not the best site we have ever stayed on. Thanks .

Apart from the neighbour drumming in the adjacent garage, this was a great place to stay.

Apart from the neighbour drumming in the adjacent garage, this was a great place to stay. There are pleasant bridle paths , one next door, another about a mile aling the road. The pub serves a superb Sunday lunch and the village is most attractive.
