Chertsey is on the banks of the Thames, just a 30-minute train ride from London.

This lovely riverside campsite is an oasis in the suburbs. It has a really rural feel yet is just a 30-minute train ride to London from the Weybridge station. It’s also perfectly placed for visiting some of the country’s best-loved theme parks (Lego Land, Thorpe Park and Chessington), as well as the world-famous Kew, Wisely and Savill gardens. Hampton Court and Chelsea flower shows are also within easy reach from here.

This popular site is on the banks of the River Thames. Bag yourself a riverside pitch and watch the many pleasure craft sail by. Canoeists can launch from here, while walkers will enjoy the Thames Path Nature Trail, a towpath leading to Staines.

The sheltered site provides great facilities for campers, including a games room with TV and table tennis table.

Worth Noting

The site is outside the Congestion Charge and Low Emission Zones. Fishing is available 16 June-15 March. Towcars must remain on site overnight (due to the possibility of flooding). Super Service pitches have TV aerial sockets. The Weybridge station is located 4 Miles from the campsite. Those with motorhomes who wish to use this station are advised to use a taxi when possible

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora or fauna. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The farm shop in Lyne sells a range of home-grown fruit and vegetables as wellas goose eggs, fresh bread, chutney, jams and more.

This site is ideal for families with children wanting to visit Thorpe Park and/or Legoland, which is what we did. Apart from noise from M25 and Heathrow, we had a quiet time. It was full or close to it when we visited but the standards were maintained. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We enjoyed meals at both of the local pubs, not cheap but good. For real ale people The Kingfisher has a good enough choice of cask conditioned ales. There is an on site catering van, the breakfast was excellent both days but on our second visit the lady in charge was stressed which did affect us.

We stayed two nights and found the wardens to be friendly enough and the site to be ideally placed for our stay near London. The shower and toilet facilities albeit adequate could do with a few repairs here and there, door locks etc, and both days we found the showers to be operating with luke warm water. My main concern was that despite deliberately joining the club and booking many weeks in advance we arrived early evening as expected and was told there were only two pitches available, one was alongside the toilet block and we would have to squeeze in - the other was on what appeared to be a half pitch, another campervan was encroaching on the pitch and the warden said he would ask them to move over later... which didn't happen. The second evening we returned to our pitch during the evening and found it had a tent on it. We ended up finding a different pitch further over on the site. To be honest we are not the sort to complain, although we did mention the issues to a warden and he blamed us for not marking our pitch when we left during the day. I was slightly miffed by this. We booked well in advance, was made to feel like a late arrival who had just turned up by chance and as a result was shoved into an area they keep for such types. Considering this was our first stay on a club site as members I questioned whether it had been worth joining at all - we appeared to not receive any benefit as members and by booking in advance. In future we will be telephoning the site in advance to make sure they are expecting us and that we are not just number on the computer screen. Lesson learned - keep a pitch marker with us. Sadly unlike the numerous years we have camped in France and never had issues like this, this site wardens do not have a way of knowing whether or not a pitch has already been allocated unless a pitch marker has been left when you go offsite. Maybe the club need to upgrade their system to strike off the pitch as available once it has been allocated.
