    Top site for fishing

Horsley Club Site, near the North Downs. Perfect for fishing, relaxing, walking.

Our tranquil Horsley Club campsite lies just north of the beautiful Surrey Hills, popular for the network of footpaths that criss-cross them, including the long distance North Downs Way.

Horsley is a peaceful campsite tucked away down the end of a quiet lane. Although large, with some 130 pitches, campers are able to sit back and relax here – either watching the abundant wildlife – foxes, deer, rabbits and ducks are all regular visitors - or casting a line into the picturesque Horsley Lake – the campsite’s centre piece. Day fishing is available here.

The campsite has clean, modern facilities. There is a new children’s play area, dog walk and a recreation room.

The Horsley Jubilee Trail, starting at Horsley station, is a nine-mile circular walk taking in woods, historic buildings, great panoramas and a well-earned refreshment stop at a traditional English pub. You can enjoy more views of the area from Newlands Corner, a popular beauty sport in the Surrey Hills, just south of the campsite.

For days out visit the National Trust’s Polsden Lacey, a stunning Edwardian Manor House near Dorking, RHS Garden Wisely the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society, and its huge plant collection, Bocketts Park Farm near Leatherhead and the Brookland Museum - home to Concorde - in Weybridge.

The theme parks Chessington World of Adventure, Legoland and Thorpe Park are all nearby.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Worth Noting

Fishing available from site opening to closing - seasonal or daily tickets are available. This site is located at the end of a "private lane" which is sign posted.

The procedure for getting in when you arrive is very long winded.

This review is for Horsley

The procedure for getting in when you arrive is very long winded. The reception did not open till on the dot of 1 oclock, so you cant go in and pay your balance until then, you then have to wait to go through the barrier, you are then required to follow behind one of the wardens, who at a very slow walking pace will lead you to your pitch, they then stand over you until you are positioned to their satisfaction, they then walk back for the next one. By this time there is quite a queue of motorhomes and caravans waiting. We had a pitch near the entrance and it looked more like a funeral procession going past every 10 minutes. What has been said in previous reviews about the shower block is correct, very tired and dated and inadequate for the size of site.

Lovely site in beautiful setting unfortunately let down by the rather dated facilities the showers of which particularly need attention. Staff are friendly enough though. TV signal is not good here so it is probably best for a stopover as it is quite near M25 though on site you'd never know it.

This review is for Horsley

We stayed at this site back in May and really liked it. Its conveniently close to home we can dart down on a Friday night and enjoy an easy weekend away. We knew it would be busy being the school holidays but even given this expectation, we were disappointed with this visit. We booked a jumbo grass non electric pitch as it was all that was available online. When we arrived, there was some debate about where we would be put. Some pitches were out of action due to the heavy rain so after a bit of discussion, we were taken to a pitch literally next door to the children's play area and told to let the wardens know if we had any problems. The pitch was also right next door to the glamping units, the majority of which were taken up by one large group. The same group had also decided to set up their chairs and hold a social gathering on the pitch next door to us. The warden asked them to move away and reminded them of the no ball games rule. We were very wary at this point but determined to enjoy our weekend. The children (from all over the site) were allowed to run around screaming and causing chaos until darkness and we were woken up at 7am on the Saturday by kids in the playground. Won't be returning during the summer hols and certainly wouldn't accept a pitch anywhere near the playground in future. The parent flouted all the rules about ball games and sticking to their own pitch but in fairness the worst of the behaviour came from a different group with some older children. People really ought to remember that getting your kids "out of your hair does not mean it's ok to let them intrude on everyone else's enjoyment. Other than that, the facilities are ok - dated but clean enough and we really like the area for walking. There's a South African food van on a Friday and pizza on a Saturday (The former being very good but queues can be long - we didn't use the latter). We will come back but will pick our time and pitch carefully.

The site is accessed down a narrow signal track lane with no passing places.

This review is for Horsley

The site is accessed down a narrow signal track lane with no passing places. Residents have logs and stones on the edge of their land to make it especially awkward and therefore no where to pass. The gateway to the campsite is very narrow which is not so bad on entry but extremely difficult on exit with any decent length of van. We telephoned in advance to say we were going to be late due to the weather and got a shocking reception when arrived. The main toilet block hasn't had any attention in years, cracked tiles, no grates on drains etc. We have stayed a number of club sites throughout the country and these have to be the worst by a long shot. There were more weeds growing on the hard standing pitches than there were hardstand. The grass had not been cut in months. If you were using the site as a base for activities that were preplanned then you could grin and bear it like we did, if not I would advise to stay away.
