A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

we have had several long stays at this site and have gradually seen the removal of the 'dog friendly'atmosphere. There was an incident with dogs fighting in the past and it has meant dogs must be on the lead at all times, even in the exercise area. Surely dog owners can use their own common sense, we are responsible adults. We are now staying at a site with lots of fun walks for our little dog , even with livestock near the site the dog owners are trusted to do the right thing and use a lead when necessary. The site is well positioned for a local bus route and several nearby towns and of course the canal walks, beware speeding cyclists.

I have stayed many times on this site.

This review is for Devizes

I have stayed many times on this site. Over the years it has become increasingly focused on motorhomes. Traditional, self-sufficient, grass-pitch camping and caravanning has become marginalised, and the camaraderie and spirit valued by longer-term members, has, I think, suffered. Don't expect others to stop by for a chat these days. Younger members and families might feel less at home, although there is a first-class children's playground. There is a delightful woodland walk, and a large field for games. If you do not have a dog, you will have ample opportunity to share in the canine enthusiasms of others! Generally, of course, this site is everything that you would expect from the Club, and the staff are polite and businesslike. (On my latest visit, though, I was unable to get a replacement gas bottle. Some advice on alternative sources might have been helpful.) That is why I have returned again and again. A great boon, too, is the chance to leave your vehicle and go everywhere by bike, to the local village of Seend, or up and down the towpath, whether shopping in Devizes, or visiting Bradford on Avon. For some years, my younger daughter and I used to cycle to Bath and back (43 miles in total), and would thoroughly recommend the contrasting experience of passing over aqueducts and round the hills to see the Roman City from an entirely new perspective.

Can recommend this site - ideal for touring and visiting Bath - convenient bus service just outside the gate. Good clean and modern facilites but the showers need a deep clean. Good canalside walks but take your bike to make the most of the area. Site staff very helpful and friendly and asked if there were any special requirments we might have to improve our break - well done. Local pubs good but very expensive particularly so in Bath. Good site.

An ideal base for visiting local places of interest such as Devizes, the K&A canal and Caen Locks. Or further afield you could visit Bath or Salisbury. Facilities and atmosphere on site were very good. Our only (very minor) negative was the location of the rubbish bins some way off from our pitch and no recycling.
