It’s perhaps one of the greatest strengths of a panel van conversion, regardless of the fixtures and fittings, that the core vehicle has remained intact exactly as the manufacturer intended. I’m not suggesting that a coachbuilt or A-class motorohome is significantly compromised, but over the years I’ve come to appreciate a unit built on the original chassis. It retains much of the manufacturer’s intended handling and this lends it to touring and being frequently on the move. And if a grand tour is what you want to do and retaining the nimble original van characteristics is important, then something like the Alto could be what you need.
